Why I made the switch to studio photography

Less is More

My creative eye has always been drawn to simplicity. Our home’s design and my personal style lends toward a less is more approach. The more I have photographed around the lowcountry, the more I could also see my photography work taking this minimalistic turn. I LOVE photographing portraits and I have always loved the idea of simplifying my photo sessions into a studio space. After having our two kids and continuing to restructure my photography business to fit the needs of our family, I decided that there was no better time than now (in the middle of a global pandemic!) to see what studio work would be like. Plus, I wanted to try something a little more unique in the lowcountry photography market. So, in August of 2020, I moved all of my portrait sessions into a studio!

So many people are looking for a studio setting

That there are actually people in the lowcountry that want studio photography for their photo shoots! No really, I actually had no idea that people would really want this form of photography. But, what I have found is that there are clients looking for this streamlined, studio approach all throughout Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, and Savannah. In fact, in the first week of opening my space I had two different clients from Savannah, GA book a session simply because they wanted to have their photo shoot in a studio and couldn’t find a setting like mine in Savannah.

I have air conditioning and the weather doesn’t matter, YAY!

I love having a clean, modern space to host my clients and take their photos.

I love that I don’t have to think about the weather, location, or time of day. After having our two kids, I realized that having a routine and schedule was important for our family and for my workflow. Having to reschedule because of weather or book sessions earlier or later in the day based on the sun rising or setting just didn’t appeal to me anymore.

I love having AC in the summer and heat in the winter.

I love that I can just focus on creating a beautiful, natural portrait for my clients without having to account for location and available light.

I love that I can light a candle, play music, and show clients inspirational photos on my computer.

Why do I think you will love a photo shoot in the studio?

  1. It is different and unique - not everyone is doing it! This is probably my favorite reason!

  2. There are no distractions - YOU are the main focus, not the trees or the ocean

  3. A studio shoot is simply timeless - With my modern perspective, of course!

  4. Easy to plan - It doesn’t matter if it’s raining or sunny, dark or bright daylight! This is wonderful for a planner like me, but even better for the busy people trying to write in pen in their calendars.
